Transcription: American fighter pilots had been fighting under the French banner since the early years of the war. But it wasn't until spring 1918 that an all-American squadron crossed the enemy lines. The Americans were undaunted and eager to enter the fray, despite the squadron being issued with second-rate fighters and, for the first few missions, no ammunition for their guns. Even in the short time that remained of the war, it was possible for an American to accomplish enough to be rated amongst the great aces.
